An Advocate is defined as someone who publicly supports and recommends. With World Renewal, we have identified and labeled three specific roles that are needed to successfully advocate for each of our missionaries. These roles work together to form a network of support for those we have sent out into the world.
|
Field Representative: This is the point person that represents a mission field. They make sure (or delegate) that any missionaries from that field visiting the USA are housed, taken care of, and have meetings with their supporters. They work to provide opportunities for others to visit. They are connected with the missionaries in that field, and pass on updates to any church ambassadors, advocates, and supporters for missionaries in that field, as well as help to raise new support for those in that field.
Church Ambassador: They work within a local church that supports a specific missionary or ministry. They are a church member that has taken responsibility to make sure their church is informed and supporting a specific missionary or ministry well.
Advocate: They feel called to publicly support and recommend a particular missionary or ministry, not specifically under or limited to a particular church.
|
The four major responsibilities for the Church Ambassadors and Advocates are:
- Prayer: A commitment to pray regularly for the missionary or ministry that you feel called to represent and advocate for.
- Communication: connecting regularly with that missionary or ministry to encourage them. If there is a language barrier, or the missionary does not have the ability to do so, this can be done through the field representative.
- Awareness of Needs: This doesn't mean that you are responsible to meet all of the needs, but that you are part of the support system for your missionary/ministry, actively asking what is needed.
- Sharing with Others: Working to identifying ways to effectively support and recommend that missionary or ministry to others, be it at your church (for church ambassadors) or other places.
