WRITING AND VISITING SPONSORED CHILDREN
Sponsoring children is a great way to get your whole family involved in missions. World Renewal is a small enough organization that we can connect you with a church, community, and children that you can visit! We offer trips each year. In Brazil, they speak Portuguese, so writing them is a bit more complicated. Rachel can help you translate and connect with individual children. Right across the street from ABBA camp in Brazil is a public school called Paulo VI. Last year, the roof of the school was damaged, closing down the school. The community of Cha de Pinheiro was in a panic: what could they do? Would their children miss the last 4 months of the school year? World Renewal Brazil quickly worked together to open the doors of ABBA camp to the school children: the teachers walked across the street and used the ABBA facilities to finish the school year triumphantly!
The relationship between ABBA camp, the community of Cha de Pinheiro, and the Paulo VI school has continued to grow. Paudalho Community Church saw this door open, and felt called to start a church, based at ABBA camp: Community Church of Cha de Pinheiro. And the best way to plant a church? Through Living Stones! We are excited to share with you the 12th Living Stones program: ABBA Living Stones.

A rural area of 1000 people outside of the small town of Lastro, about 2 hours from the large city of Sousa (85,000), and 8 hours from the headquarters in Carpina, Brazil is Boa Esperanca. Led by Pastor Flavio and Mercia Travassos, this church was built and started by a church in Caruaru (5 hours away). Together in partnership, they work with World Renewal Brazil to reach out to this community through the church and Living Stones program.

Cajueiro Claro is a small rural town of 30 families, 4 kilometers off of the main road. There is no other ministry in this community. Led by Neide, Kena teaches Portuguese and math, Sara teaches computers, Neide shares Bible and character studies, Camila leads music, and JC provides sports training.

Cesario Monteiro joined with Community Churches in Brazil as a teenager. In 2023, Cesario, along with his wife, Cida, and their son, Julio felt called to serve in ministry. Through door-to-door evangelism around their home in Caruaru (about 2.5 hours from WRB headquarters in Carpina), people began to give their lives to Christ, and a small group began. With Feira Nova Community Church, under the supervision of Pastor Ricardo Silva, they began the Community Church of Caruaru in August 2024. In March 2024, Pastor Philip from the Pinheiropoles Baptist Church invited the Monteiro family to also be missionaries with the Baptist Church in Serrote dos Bois (a rural area of Caruaru). So now, even though they have little financial support, they are establishing the Community Church in Caruaru and working with the Baptist Church in Serrote dos Bois.
After getting to know their own home community and the rural community nearby, the Monteiro family felt the desire and saw the need to start a Living Stones program to serve the children in these communities. These are very needy children, many of them with fathers who deal in drugs, mothers who live in prostitution, and homes destroyed by alcohol. Without much financial help (yet), they began Living Stones by faith. They opened the doors of their home to provide Love, Education, Nutrition and Direction (LEND) to Jesus to the children in their neighborhood. They serve 30+ children from their neighborhood and rural areas.

In 2017, Pastor Carlos Albuquerque began serving in the church in Desterro, a suburb of Paudalho of about 3,000 people, located quite a bit past the city development. They have had a lot of adversity from the Catholic church, but have built relationships with the families and school, and have begun a Living Stones program, working in partnership with other churches.

World Renewal Brazil began a relationship with pastor Joel (a passionate church planter) of the Baptist Church in Mirandiba a couple of years ago. Mirandiba is about seven hours inland from the WRB headquarters. His community is made up of many indigenous peoples, and Quilombolas (Quilombolas are descendants of escaped African slaves with unique Afro-Brazilian cultural heritage and a protected peoples status). Their community struggles with poverty in the rural, dessert-like area of Northeast Brazil. We are happy to share that this program is being supported financially by the Brazilian company, but we invite you please begin praying for these precious children!

Living Stones near the Amazon began in 2021. During Covid, The Gouveias, who'd been working with indigenous tribes for years, were not able to continue because of pandemic restrictions. They worked with nearby areas, such as Mirante do Falcao, around the Amazon instead, finding many kids thirsty to hear about Jesus, which began Living Stones and new church plants. We are excited to share that now that restrictions have been lifted, the Gouveias are able to reach out to indigenous children as well! Because of this expansion, we are changing the name to “Near the Amazon" to cover all the areas God calls them to serve.
